Engaging with the Product Team, Sales and software development teams to shape, scope, and design customer focussed solutions balancing customer requirements, technical needs, operational support and business objectives.
Working in an agile, fast-paced environment you will drive solutions design forward for the varied domains that includes PaaS, co-located services and hardware with the primary focus being on our innovative PaaS (AWS based) solutions.
In collaboration with the COO, Product Manager, Head of Solutions and others you will also influence the strategic direction of the business, the supporting technical architecture and the global support model.
Role and responsibilities:
Support to the business through the sales cycle include pre-sales, readiness assessments, cost optimisation, POC builds and to product go-live.
Be the weapon of choice for Sales and the Product team in solutions design for customer needs and customer meetings.
Communicate design decisions, best practise and solutions in plain and clear business terms to customers, internal teams and, when needed, the board and investors.
Be the contact point for resolution of solutions requirement and design issues
Collaborate closely with the Product team and Solutions team to ensure the product roadmap and the technologies are coordinated and meet current and new product requirements.
In collaboration with the Product Team and Sales highlight opportunities and threats to existing platforms and services.
Lead the solutions design and decision-making process by articulating options and implications, ensuring designs are appropriate, flexible and robust.
Advising on the technology stack for product development ensuring it is the most suitable for a service/project.
Analyse non-functional requirements and ensure that product development and software development will meet them.
Ensure that the end deliverable can be supported effectively.
Analyse our existing technology environments (in house and 3rd party) to gain an overview of our technology stacks and their strengths, weaknesses.
Challenge and propose technical solutions and architecture at the Technical Steering Group.
Drive solutions design forward by implementing best practises in alignment with our product led agile development strategy.
Be a subject matter expert on trends in solutions design and architecture.
Investigate new and evolving technologies through research, conferences and events; developing expertise in geographic information systems (GIS), satellite and maritime space.
Work closely with Head of Solutions (Development, DevOps and QA) to ensure that products and projects can best utilise the latest technology, DevOps and QA best practises such as continuous integration and deployment.
Skills and experience:
3+ years in a role or roles that involved solutions design
At least 2 years in solutions design for cloud built on AWS
Advantageous if combined with experience of on premise and co-located solutions design.
Good understanding of APIs and experience of their deployment (via APIGEE is an advantage).
Practical experience of working in companies that practise Agile and/or Lean delivery
Good understanding of automation, DevOps tools and methodologies and how they are used to deploy solutions within a cloud platform.
Data modelling experience is advantageous and ideally in GIS.
Technical experience is important, but you won’t be expected to be installing servers!
